Batatavada + Meduvada in Sambar



A very simple breakfast dish - "batatavada + meduvada in sambar" at Lakshmi Restaurant, Belapur, Navi Mumbai. Best stopover between Pune and Mumbai.
This combo cannot be translated effectively but I will try... 
"Deep fried potato spicy mix + deep fried black gram mix + lentil soup"
Batata vada (on the right) = potato mash with spicy mix coated with chick pea flour and deep fried
Medu Vada (on the left) = black lentil (urad dal) paste with condiments including fenugreek, curry leaves, black pepper, cumin seeds, ginger and shredded coconut and deep fried
Sambar or Sambhar = lentil based vegetable stew or broth made in tamarind paste
